The Brief
Loughton Direct was approached by a leading global law firm after ongoing issues with their gym facilities. Repeated water ingress had caused the gym floor system to fail, leading to persistent odours and complaints from staff.

The client was desperate for a long-term solution that would remove the cause of the issue entirely, and prevent the need for further floor replacements should future leaks occur.
The original gym floor comprised a 10mm sheet rubber over a 30mm plywood subfloor. Due to these constant leaks, moisture had penetrated the subfloor, causing the plywood to absorb it. This absorbed water broke down the ply over time causing very unpleasant smells. It was clear that keeping a subfloor susceptible to moisture issues would only delay further issues.

Loughton Direct fully uplifted the existing rubber flooring and plywood build-up, stripping the area back to the bare concrete subfloor. To eliminate future risks, a 40mm gym tile system was installed directly onto the concrete.
The completed gym now benefits from a durable, robust flooring system designed specifically for high-use environments. Visually, the new floor provides a clean, professional finish that enhances the overall quality of the space.
By upgrading the floor and removing moisture prone materials, the client has a resilient, future proof solution that will significantly reduce the risk of recurring issues. The new system ensures the gym can remain operational and presentable without repeated disruption or unnecessary replacement works.
